Just a Taste

No, I'm not still writing about food... I'm sure that would bore you to tears... but we did have a great meal... um. Never mind.

So. Here is a little bit of what I did last week with Louise and Maggie. I still don't have Nadja's photos (I just love technology, don't you?), so you're stuck with a look at some of what I did. Hopefully we'll have our technological difficulties figured out by tomorrow and I'll show you what other folks did.

Maggie had us work on a "project palette" - here's what I came up with. This was the easy part. We then had to mix clay to match the colors we chose. Ooosh! I have to admit, however, after some struggling I reached the "zen spot" Maggie described and suddenly the mixing got waaaay easier. I only hope I can do the same thing when I get home.

We did a number of exercises to help fine tune our color eyes, as it were. One thing I had a lot of fun with was making a collage of colors... here's the one I finished.
Notice all the blues and purples? I was surprised to see so many pinks in my collage... I really don't like pinks, usually, but I guess I was in a muted earthy pink mode that day - maybe because all of Stresa is painted in various shades of pink. I have to say, while I came away from Maggie's workshop numb in the brain from all the information we were given, I really did find I had a finer eye for color and mixing. Thanks so much Maggie!!

Louise is a delight to learn from because it feels like we are all just sharing and working together, even though what's really happening is Louise giving us new skills and techniques that really opened new doors for me. Here are some unfinished pieces that I just photographed on my (Italian) hotel patio... mind you, they are not finished and were photographed in a less than desirable location... but no more excuses. Here ya go...

No excuses necessary - those are gorgeous!

I would love to take a workshop with Maggie Maggio sometime - color is something that I think I have an intuitive feel for, but I would love to know more about. You should drop by my new COlor Challenge for a little fun if you get time.

BTW, I didn't think I really liked pink much, either, until I started marking "favorite" photos in flickr. Now I'm seeing that I really do like pink when it's an accent color to all kinds of greens. Which makes sense, when you think about it.

Hi Lisa! You are so sweet. Thank you for your kind words. Yes, Maggie's "Smashing Color" workshop is well worth the investment. I have a feeling I'll find her lessons creeping up on me on a regular basis.

I love your "Color Challenge" - what a great idea. I would love to join in the fun, but I'm having trouble keeping up with my current commitments. But I'll be sure to mention it in my next post! :)

Hey, I met a couple in Cinque Terre from "down under" - Perth, to be exact. As I remember, you're on the East Coast though (just like me... er, well, sort of).
