My Head is Spinning!

No, this isn't The Exorcist. And before I explain the head spinning thing... for those who just come for the pictures... here are two of my more simpler BioBangles. First, Plant Cells (a la Gary Larson)...

And then, in black, white and warm gray... Duckweed!

Now, the head spinning thing...

Over the last year I have been using the "casting seeds" approach to marketing, as I call it. Mostly the casting entailed contacting retail shops, here and there, that might find my work interesting. I hate this kind of "casting", so it's a good thing I haven't had much success with it... or... maybe... I haven't had much success because I hate doing it. Heh.

So, anyway... recently, I've also been submitting a few applications to large high end shows - particularly if they have an emerging artist program. Hey, if one doesn't reach high, one will never know if one can... well... reach high. For a few years I showed at the rather nice juried Harbor Arts & Craft Show in Camden, Maine. I did well, even when others around me did not. But the investment of time and energy just wasn't worth the net gain. I decided it was time for a change in my tactics...

It was time to really raise the bar!

But I must say, I was very surprised when I heard I had been accepted into the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show. Granted, it is through their Emerging Artist program. But still, it's the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show! I mean, hey, is that the cat's meow or what! So, yeah, my head is spinning! I have six months to get my act (and inventory) together, and figure out how to survive a major-huge, fancy-shmancy, week long "sell yourself or die" event. ACK!!!!

So... yeah, my head is spinning.

There are more bits to share about all this "seed casting" and "bar raising" (as well as a Blue Ringed Octopus), so stay tuned!

Yaaaaay!!!! Congratulations!!!! Now, figure out the perfect price and you will do wonderfully! And...talk to everyone that stops! I saw Elise Winters in action and I don't think she lost a sale. It's so important to make possible customers feel like the sale is valued! (I'm sure you've seen the artists that don't make eye-contact)! Your work is beautiful and it's all up to you!!!
